Places & Spaces Los Alamos Shares Draft Planning Document

Places and Spaces Los Alamos is preparing a project document to embody concepts that would be applied to leading an effort to establish a Pajarito Trails Festival as an annual celebration of the Pajarito Plateau and Jemez Mountains trail systems. A variety of land managers are responsible for publicly accessible trails in the area including Los Alamos County, Santa Fe National Forest, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Bandelier National Monument, Valles Caldera National Preserve, and Ski Pajarito.

The Pajarito Trails Fest is envisioned not just as a race or competition, but as a mosaic quilt of community activities. While a standard festival might be one large, centrally produced activity, for the Pajarito Trails Fest we anticipate a coordinated collection of patches—each created by a specific local organization (hikers, bikers, birders, runners, conservation organizations, land managers)—and stitched together with shared resources, marketing, and local business support, ensuring broad community benefits.

The draft planning document (link) is a work in progress and is expected to evolve considerably. Constructive comments, ideas, and suggestions may be sent to placesandspacesla@gmail.com
